I make it, with the software PowerCinema (ALDI digitize) a vhs to. However, the file (video is 4 hours) is too large and not fit on a DVD. The record seems to 1:1 without being really good compression. The format is mpg. I've tried Virtual Dub, since no successful capture. The program does not find the interface to the VHS recorder. Question: How can I (shrink the file as possible without quality loss so large that it fits on a DVD). Is that with VirtualDub? Or what setting need VirtualDub to recognize the appropriate channel to the VHS to? Thanks Tommy

Nice question ;-) 4 hours for a DVD-5 is clear: too many. You should all at least 2 (best 4) DVDs then will share the loss in quality will be limited. How big is your mpeg file? 'm Assuming that it is mpeg2. The quality and size (inversely proportional to each other) you can probably set somewhere in your "Studio" software mglw. () under recording. A better quality you will with an external encoder (converts files to mpeg2 to reach) as TMPGenc, CCE or Procoder (Express). A few helpful hints for you may find here Grüßchen, Jens

Thank you, Jens, The mpg file is 6.5 gig, who knows if mpeg1 or 2?? Anyway, I can choose in which Aldi program only between recording quality good, better, best. Formats is there no question? Probably the software vendor does not want people with professional Chinese confusing. I Resolutiongewählt the lowest - that is good. Something I would have been even more happy. Now I would like to accept synonymous quality loss, but it should only be a DVD. But how? What prog to convert mpg file to a format with higher compression? Or else what captured program so that 1:1 is not recorded, but when digitizing is already compressed? or I talk nonsense? Ciao tommyw

If you have 6.5 GB in 4 h, then it is already quite compressed.
I would now authors mercilessly one (too big) to DVD and then pulped with DVDShrink to 4.3 GB. Or your DVD authoring software allows you to set possibly even the final quantity. And then you can times the original VHS and the DVD side walk. After my recent experience, there is a chance that you are satisfied.
