I just try to understand your problem and believe it with your question seems rather s.der image technology (and the limits of material stuck DV) ...
The "grain" are simply the pixels whose values have been distorted and so no longer around to fit (the filter of which has not been affected) ...
Taking even a hochaufgelösendes Picture (or one with more color depth) in AE and you will see that this filter provides the very different results ...

If you look right, then the light is already out and tear on the left is a gray soup that shows nothing (or little) of the structure of the wall or door.
