MPEG is a strong compression algorithm, which is usually only every 12th or 15 contains the complete image information and the frames in between holds only the differences from the previous pictures. Files in AVI format usually have everything frames.
1 hour DV AVI is around 13GB storage capacity.
1h MPEG2, depending on the data rate of very low to approximately 3.6 GB of storage space.
