Short-distance projectors are becoming increasingly popular. Probably above all because you don't have to create a separate space for the beamer in the living room. With the S718QL, Dell will now be able to deliver a 4K-capable device in a few weeks that shines on paper with quite interesting specifications.
The required distance to the wall is only 10 cm. The laser projector can radiate up to 5,000 lumens of light, which should ensure a clearly visible image even in brighter rooms. According to the data sheet HDR10, the S718QL supports 10-bit representation with more than 1 billion color nuances and can at best achieve a contrast of 11 f-stops.
In the brightest mode, however, the S718QL also consumes around 500 watts (and sounds at around 36 dB). In Eco mode for lightly darkened rooms, it is only 280W on average with a much more charming 29 dB. The achievable image size is between 100 and 130 inches.
With its dimensions of 459 mm x 385 mm x 135 mm, it is no longer inconspicuously concealed, but it is also not unacceptably large. Fixed connections include 2x HDMI 1.4a and 1x HDMI 2.0 as well as a network connection. Audio can also be redistributed via Bluetooth.
With an expected laser service life of 20,000 hours and a current price of approx. 5,300 euros, the S718 can be regarded as a long-term investment.
