Apple Pro Display XDR - 10 Bit HDR 6K Display with constant 1,000 Nits from 5,000 Dollar

In addition to the MacPro, Apple also introduced a new 6K monitor yesterday. With a 32-inch LCD panel and a 20 MP resolution of 6016 x 3384 pixels, the Pro Display XDR offers almost 40 percent more screen space than a Retina 5K display. With full P3 color space coverage and true 10-bit colors, it is also recommended for video and film editing, especially as it will also support native film refresh rates (47.95Hz, 48.00Hz, 50.00Hz, 59.94Hz, 60.00Hz).
A special polarization technology is supposed to provide for special colour stability, so that also several persons around the display receive a correct colour impression. For a 1,000 surcharge, the otherwise reflective display also comes with a matt anti-reflective option called Nanotextur.

Another special feature is the backlight with 1,000 Nits full screen brightness, which can also be kept constant. The top brightness is even 1,600 Nits. These are very good HDR values, which you can hardly get cheaper even with competitors with lower resolution. As a rule, HDR monitors can only hold 1,000 bits in parts of the display over a longer period of time for thermal reasons. Apple claims to have solved this problem with a special thermal management system that uses the aluminium grid pattern (taken from the new Mac Pro) for the air flow. Which also gives the display the appearance of a cheese grater.
Starting in autumn, the Pro Display XDR will be delivered at a base price of 5,000 dollars. In addition to the mentioned matt nano texture option, there is also a special stand available for a further 1,000. This price divides the fan community, whereby the foot does not only "float" the 7.5 kg monitor almost friction-free. It also allows the display to be attached and removed using a magnetic attachment to move the monitor back and forth between several feet. This can be very useful if several workstations want to share a 6K pre-foam monitor, or if it even occasionally moves to a film set. If you want to mount the monitor permanently, you also get a standardized VESA mount for 200 dollars.

Since the price for a real 1,000 Nits HDR display (not only for Apple conditions) is to be regarded as quite cheap, the Apple display might even become an interesting option for non Apple customers. However, it is foreseeable that other display manufacturers will soon have 6K models with good HDR cooling for less money in their range when Apple delivers its display in autumn.
