Benro Theta travel tripod sets itself up and streams

Now even tripods are getting "smart" - on Kickstarter, Benro is launching a first, self-leveling photo tripod. This works via a special add-on module that connects via an electronic port - also enabling remote camera control, TimeLapse shooting and live streaming.
Benro Theta travel tripod
Called Theta and Theta Max, respectively, the systems are designed for speed and, according to Benro, are particularly quick to set up and setup. The three-section tripod legs are each released and locked in place via a central locking mechanism at the base, so there's no need to open each section separately. The camera (plate) can also be attached with a flick of the wrist.
If the optionally available battery module is inserted, the usual horizontal leveling is also unnecessary. Instead, the Auto-Levelling function is activated at the touch of a button, whereupon the camera determines which legs need to be retracted or extended so that the camera rests horizontally. This is said to succeed with an accuracy of 0.1°. The battery module can also power the camera or other accessories or modules.

Balancing as if by magic
A total of 3 electronic ports are available to accommodate even more modules. You can choose between a module for camera remote control (the following cameras are supported), with which the camera or the ball head can be fine-tuned, the GoLive module, with which video can be streamed (Internet connection and HDMI output on the camera required) and an "optical matrix sensor module" for harmonic timelapse recordings. This is mounted on the camera and detects changes in the lighting situation so that the Camera Control Module can adjust the exposure accordingly.

The Benro Theta travel tripod weighs 1.25kg and supports a payload up to 11kg, while the Theta Max supports up to 20kg at 1.65kg dead weight. They can be extended to a height of 155cm and 170cm respectively. Construction is said to be rugged and sand/water resistant. Benro also points out that an anti-slip mechanism can prevent the tripod from tipping over if the legs ever fail to lock firmly.
For discounted and , respectively, the Benro Theta / Theta Max tripods are currently available for pre-order on Kickstarter, though the desired module combinations still need to be purchased for full functionality. The battery module, for example, is available for , while the camera control set costs including the battery module. The modules will be much more expensive in regular stores later, but you take the usual risks when you pre-purchase on Kickstarter.
