Blackmagic today announced (among other things) two new top-of-the-line models in its ATEM Mini series of live ATEM production mixers for multi-camera productions, the
;) Blackmagic ATEM Mini Extreme The control panel. Like the previous models in the series, the two new ones also have a compact control panel, by means of which it is possible to switch between eight FullHD live HDMI video sources, for example to stream live to YouTube, Twitch or Facebook, or to realize elaborate multi-camera business presentations via Skype or Zoom. In addition to source selection buttons, the console-style control panel provides others for adjusting audio inputs, selecting video effects and transitions, mixing audio, and adjusting recording and streaming settings. Furthermore, they have buttons for selecting signal output and switching video output between cameras, program, and multiviewer. Inputs and Outputs. On the back of the units there are HDMI connectors for cameras or computers and extra microphone jacks to which, for example, tabletop and clip-on microphones can be connected for interviews and presentations. All HDMI inputs are equipped with a separate standards converter that allows automatic conversion of 1080p, 1080i and 720p sources to the mixer&s video standard. The rear panel also features a USB port for webcam outputs, which functions like a webcam and allows users to use any streaming software, as well as two HDMI aux outputs for program video or a MultiView view of the various inputs and outputs. ;) Blackmagic ATEM Mini Extreme Inputs and Outputs The USB port can also be used to record streaming data in H.264 format, along with the AAC audio that is also streamed, to one (or, for uninterrupted recording via USB hub or the Blackmagic Multidock, to multiple) USB drive(s). These files can be uploaded directly to any online video portal such as YouTube or Vimeo for time-shifted streaming. Live Streaming via ATEM Mini Extreme (ISO) The two ATEM Mini Extreme models also have their own hardware streaming engine integrated for direct live streaming via the Ethernet port, which makes the detour via a PC unnecessary. When streaming to YouTube, Facebook and Twitch, users benefit from better quality without frame drops and simplified settings, as they only need to select a streaming service and enter a stream key to start streaming. The streaming settings menu in the ATEM Software Control displays the streaming status in the multiviewer along with information such as the data rate, which defines the required Internet speed for the video format used. As an alternative to the Ethernet port and quasi as a backup, live productions on location can also be streamed directly to the network via the mobile data connection of an Apple or Android cell phone connected via USB - the ATEM Mini Extreme thus becomes a mobile production solution. Tethering works with the latest cell phones for 5G speeds as well as popular 4G phones. The ATEM mixer automatically detects a connected cell phone and accesses its Internet connection. ATEM Software Control. Using the free included  ATEM Software Control program for macOS and Windows, users can access each mixer function on their screen as well. The user interface of the ATEM Software Control is visually similar to that of the mixer and settings can be made via menu palettes.Up to 20 separate RGBA graphics in broadcast quality can be loaded into the integrated media pool for titles, opening panels and logos. ;) ATEM Software Control Integrated Chromakeyer. The ATEM Mini Extreme models offer four independent upstream chromakeyers for implementing virtual sets, for example. With four independent chromakeyers, you have one keyer for each camera and can accordingly build a virtual set for up to four cameras - the four other inputs can be used to feed in computer-rendered backgrounds for the virtual set. Multiviewer For more comprehensive multi-camera live productions, it is practical to view all video sources simultaneously on a single screen. That&s why both new models feature a professional multiviewer that allows all video input, preview and program to be displayed on a single HDMI TV screen. All camera views include tally indicators that signal the on-air status of the source. In addition, each view provides custom identifiers and audio level meters. Also displayed in the multiviewer are recording and streaming status, and audio mixer. ;) Multiviewer What makes the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO different from the ATEM Mini Extreme? The ATEM Mini Extreme ISO differs from its sister model - analogous to the ATEM Mini Pro and ATEM Mini Pro ISO - only in its ability to record source video streams as well. Thus, its recording engine can record all 8 inputs plus the program, for a total of 9 streams. ;) ATEM Mini Extreme recording imported into DaVinci Resolve In addition, the ATEM Extreme ISO also saves information about cuts and crossfades, as well as all audio files and graphics from the Media Pool, as a DaVinci Resolve project file, so that live productions can be edited later in DaVinci Resolve with just a click. The recorded video files also include metadata tags for synchronized timecode and camera numbers, for example. For professional post-production in the highest quality and resolution, the original Blackmagic RAW files from the camera can even be accessed by linking them to the project (if a Blackmagic camera was used).
