Less than a month ago, Blackmagic released version 1.2 of its free camera app aimed at professional users – now, version 1.3 is already available. The new version adds the ability to record timecode alongside clips, which enables users to sync recordings from multiple cameras during multicam shoots. The update also includes an anamorphic desqueeze display function, new lens correction settings, as well as support for off-speed and slow-motion recordings. Users of Google&s Pixel 6, 7, 8, and 9 smartphones can now shoot at higher frame rates, including 120 fps and 240 fps at 720p or 120 fps at 1080p. Blackmagic Camera App 1.3 Additionally, Blackmagic Camera now supports Xiaomi 13T, Samsung Flip 5/6, and Fold 5/6 smartphones. The professional features of the Blackmagic Camera AppThe Blackmagic Camera for Android app offers professional camera features on Android smartphones - as well as on iPhones - with the same interface as Blackmagic cameras. Not only can settings like frame rate, shutter angle, white balance, and ISO be adjusted manually, but the interface also shows many status and recording parameters such as histogram, focus peaking, levels, or frame markers. Autofocus is also supported by tapping on objects. Blackmagic Camera App 1.3 A unique feature is the ability to record directly into a DaVinci Resolve project or up to 8K in the Blackmagic Cloud. This allows clips to be edited collaboratively right after recording. By recording in Blackmagic Cloud Storage, editors and producers can access these files from anywhere in the world under DaVinci Resolve projects simultaneously. The Android version currently supports recordings in H.264 and H.265 formats - Apple ProRes remains exclusive to the iPhone version, which is already available in version 2.0 and includes additional features like remote control and monitoring of recordings using multiple iPhones, with a Multiview option on an iPad.
