Blackmagic Design introduced the HyperDeck Shuttle 4K Pro, a new live media player and master recorder, at NAB 2025. The device is designed for desktop use and can be operated with one hand: The angled design allows the user's hand to rest comfortably on the jog wheel, and the control buttons are located directly under the fingertips. In addition to the preview, the generous 7-inch HDR display offers a mini-timeline for playback to browse clips.

The buttons are similar to those of conventional broadcast VTRs. Simply press the record button and the recorder immediately starts recording the video input signal to a file. Additional buttons are used for playback, clip cueing, and fast-forwarding to the next clip. The large metal jog wheel supports Shuttle, Jog, and Scroll modes, allowing users to quickly find clips. All control functions of the recorder can also be triggered remotely via Ethernet.
The HyperDeck Shuttle 4K Pro is specifically designed for direct recording to network storage. At the same time, the device also has space for internal M.2 flash memory cards on the bottom. The network storage is therefore also available locally and can be integrated into a Blackmagic Cloud infrastructure.

This allows you to log into the HyperDeck Shuttle 4K Pro from any editing system and access all media in a central location. With DaVinci Resolve, you can even edit media while it is being recorded. A USB-C expansion port is available for recording to large external storage devices and for software updates. The SD card slot supports both SD and UHS-II cards.
The HyperDeck Shuttle 4K Pro supports numerous relevant codecs: In addition to DNx and ProRes file formats, there is also particularly space-saving H.264/H.265 - provided that recording is done in NTSC, PAL, 720p, 1080p, 1080i, 1080PsF and 2160p formats. With compression ratios from 60:1 to 285:1, tiny files are created in full broadcast quality.
The HyperDeck Shuttle 4K Pro features the latest 12G-SDI video connections and supports all common television standards up to 2160p/23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 50, 59.94 and 60p. For working with 3G-SDI rates, the SDI connection supports both Level A and Level B. There is also a 10G Ethernet port.

The head-up display, or HUD for short, shows important information such as timecode, media status and audio level meters. In addition, broadcast scopes with full functionality as well as functions such as a focus assist and an RGB histogram for exposure can be activated. This means that the HyperDeck Shuttle 4K Pro can also be used for signal control with a live input.
The HyperDeck Shuttle 4K Pro is now available from Blackmagic Design dealers for 1,795 euros.
