If you want to record Blackmagic RAW with a camera from a third-party manufacturer, you can currently only do this with a Video Assist monitor/recorder. Blackmagic always ensures that current camera models are supported with firmware updates.
For example, the Fujifilm X-M5 and the Panasonic Lumix S5D have been added as new models with the recently updated software update 3.17 for Video Assist. This update upgrades Blackmagic Video Assist 5‘ and 7’ 12G HDR to the latest software version with new features, bug fixes and other improvements. It also installs the Blackmagic RAW Player, Blackmagic RAW Speed Test, Blackmagic RAW SDK and Blackmagic RAW plugins for editing software other than DaVinci Resolve.
Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR - RAW support for Fujifilm X-M5 and Panasonic Lumix S5D
As is typical for RAW, the camera settings are saved in the metadata when recording with the Video Assist 12G HDR models. This means that the white balance and ISO are encoded in the file, but without permanently saving the pixels with these values. This means that these values can still be changed in post-production by using the RAW settings palette.
The update is available for Windows and MacOs from today and can be downloaded free of charge from the Blackmagic support page.
