Canon introduces hybrid lenses RF 70-200mm F2.8, RF 50mm F1.4 and RF 24mm F1.4

After Canon had already announced the presentation of its new full-frame hybrid lenses for its EOS R system, the curtain was lifted today. With the RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z, the RF 50mm F1.4 L VCM and the RF 24mm F1.4 L VCM, Canon is expanding its portfolio of lenses specially designed for both photo and video with RF mount.

Characteristic of Canon&s new ‘hybrid’ range is the return of the aperture ring on the lens to give filmmakers more manual control, servo zoom options on selected lenses, an 11-blade diaphragm, electronically assisted parfocal zooming and minimised focus breathing.

Here are the main features of the newly introduced hybrid lenses according to Canon:

Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z

- Large focal length range with high constant speed of 1:2.8
- Outstanding image quality for sharp, high-contrast images thanks to two Super UD lenses, one UD lens, three aspherical lenses and ASC and Super Spectra coatings
- Professional, electronically assisted parfocal focussing and suppression of the focus-breathing effect to ensure a continuous image effect when filming
- Internal zoom control with constant length of the lens barrel.
- Smooth operation of the iris control ring with 1/32 stops (no clicks) and a locking switch for the ‘Auto’ position
- The 11-blade iris diaphragm offers excellent artistic control of bokeh and
- The weather protection of the L-series enables use under difficult conditions
- Optionally available with white heat-resistant coating or black standard coating
- Weight 1,115 g (white), 1,110 g (black) without tripod mount
- Dimensions 88.5 mm (W) x 199 mm (L)

Main features of the Canon RF 50mm F1.4 L VCM

- The natural 50mm focal length with a high aperture of f/1.4 is ideal for portrait and video shots in low light and for videos with creative depth of field
- Outstanding image quality thanks to two aspherical lenses and a UD lens as well as Super Spectra and ASC coating for excellent sharpness and contrast
- The weather protection of the L series enables use in difficult conditions
- Smooth operation of the iris control ring with 1/32 stops (no licks) and a locking switch for the ‘Auto’ position
- The 11-blade iris diaphragm offers excellent artistic control of bokeh and highlights
- VCM and Nano USM motors for smooth, fast and quiet autofocusing
- Customised button and control ring for easy adjustment and control of camera settings
- Weight: approx. 580 g

Main features of the Canon RF 24mm F1.4 L VCM

- The focal length of 24mm with a high speed of 1:1.4 is ideal for indoor and landscape shots in low light and video recordings with creative depth of field
- Two UD lenses and an aspherical lens as well as Super Spectra, SWC and ASC coatings for outstanding sharpness and contrast ensure excellent image quality
- The weather protection of the L series enables use in difficult conditions
- Smooth operation of the diaphragm control ring with 1/32 stops (no clicks) and a locking switch for the ‘Auto’ position
- The 11-blade iris diaphragm offers excellent artistic control of bokeh and highlights
- VCM and Nano USM motors provide smooth, fast and quiet autofocus
- Customised button and control ring make it easy to adjust and control camera settings
- Rear filter holder on the back of the lens for even more creative control
- Weight: approx. 515 g
- Dimensions: approx. 76.5 x 99.3 mm

Prices and availability



The 70-200 will be available for 3,599 euros from 14 November in specialist
will be available. The 50 mm will be available for 1,599 euros and the 24 mm for 1,749 euros from
