As expected, Canon today introduced its new mirrorless full format EOS RP with 26.2 MP CMOS sensor (DIGIC 8 CPU). With a UVP. of only 1.499,- Euro the Canon EOS RP should be the cheapest mirrorless full format camera on the market (for comparison: Sony A7III = 2.299,- UVP.). Canon also relies on compactness in terms of dimensions and weight. With just 485g (incl. battery and memory card), the Canon EOS RP is probably the lightest mirrorless full format camera. It&s nice to see that a high-quality housing made of magnesium alloy was nevertheless used.
For the recording, an SD card slot is available on which is written in the photo mode with max. 5 fps (JPEG). 4K video is recorded with max. 25p in H.264. The Canon EOS RP should also record 4K video in 1.6x crop 1:1. In contrast to the Canon EOS R there is no Canon Log and no 10 bit output available at the HDMI. Here it is then 8 bits 4:2:2 that are output. ![]() One should keep in mind with the new Canon EOS RP that Canon&s Dual Pixel AF is only available with HD recording and not with 4K with the Canon EOS RP. The latter is focused with contrast AF. This together with the strong crop and the omission of Canon Log should make the Canon EOS RP especially interesting for photographers and less so for filmmakers. ![]() What Filmer and Vlogger can be happy about with the Canon EOS RP, however, is the 7.5cm folding display (approx. 1.04 million pixels) that can be swivelled completely to the side, which can also be turned forward. In addition, the Canon EOS RP also has headphone jack and audio in (both mini jack). The built-in 0.39-inch OLED viewfinder provides a 2.36 MP on. Even if we would have preferred to see a new full frame EOS R above the existing EOS R - one can understand Canon&s decision for a more consumer oriented EOS RP model. On the one hand, it&s about securing market share in a highly competitive segment - and an aggressively low-priced &entry-level model& is just right for that. On the other hand, there are simply too few lenses available for a mirrorless professional DSLM. The more exciting Canon-News today is therefore for us also the newly published Canon Lens Roadmap to which there will be an extra news item here on slashCAM. Therefore: Yes, a video finer high-end Canon would have been cooler but probably an entry-level Canon is the cleverer version for Canon ... which brings us to the prices and availability of the new Canon EOS RP: EOS RP Body incl. Mount Adapter EF-EOS R: 1.499€ UVP EOS RP Kit with RF 24-105 incl. Mount Adapter EF-EOS R: 2.499€ UVP Extension handle EG-E1: 79€ UVP The EOS-R including the bundles listed here is expected to be available from the end of February. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Canon stellt spiegellose Vollformat EOS RP mit 4K Video für 1.499,- Euro vor |
