The new E2 Mark II versions from Chinese manufacturer Z CAM are now available. The Z CAM E2-M4 Mark II, Z CAM E2-S6 Mark II, and Z CAM E2-F6 Mark II offer largely the same basic functions as the previous generation 4K or 6K recording in Cine-cube format but also include a number of improvements.
A major change is the storage medium; instead of CFast, CFexpress Type B is now used, enabling faster write speeds and more robust performance. In addition, all new models feature Genlock and timecode for synchronization in multi-camera setups.
A gyro sensor has been integrated for image stabilization, while a Mini V-Lock battery is provided for power (instead of Sony NP-F as before). A Gigabit Ethernet port allows camera control and live streaming and even supports PoE+ (Power over Ethernet). For audio connection, a 3.5mm stereo jack input, a 5-pin LEMO input, and a 3.5mm stereo jack output are available.
How the Z Cam cameras differ
Z Cam's cine cameras are not yet widely used in this country the three E2 Mark II model series differ in both sensor size and resolution. While the Z CAM E2-M4 Mark II with its 4/3" CMOS sensor supports 4K/DCI and UHD at up to 160 fps and HD at up to 240 fps, both the S6 and F6 film in a maximum of 6K at up to 60 frames per second. The two, in turn, differ in sensor size the F6 is equipped with a full-frame CMOS sensor, while the S6 has a Super-35mm CMOS sensor.
The compact housing weighs approx. 1.2 kg (or just over 1 kg for the MFT version), but does not have a display for image preview; only setting parameters are displayed. Recording is in H.264/H.265, ProRes, or Zraw (ProRes Raw only with an external recorder).
The M4 comes with an MFT mount, while the S35 and full-frame cameras are standard equipped with an EF bayonet (changeable to PL, LPL, and M).
