DJI Avata: New CineWhoop FPV drone from DJI coming soon?
[14:31 Tue,16.August 2022 by Thomas Richter]
Rumors according to DJI will soon ( probably on August 23 ) introduce a second FPV model, an FPV drone called Avata. Unlike the up to 140 km/h fast DJI FPV, the new model is a so-called CineWhoop (aka CineDrone) drone, i.e. a small quadcopter with a rotor guard that allows control from a first-person perspective via display glasses using the front-facing camera. The drone is thus particularly well suited for aerial racing or recording daring aerial maneuvers - especially when flown using motion control.

What is known about the DJI Avata?
What catches the eye is the DJI Avata&s special body design, the savings of which are meant to minimize weight. The new drone is said to weigh 410 grams - about half of the DJI FPV, which comes in at 795 grams - and can stay airborne for 18 minutes via a 2,480 mAh battery.

Live images are captured by a 1/1.17" 4K CMOS sensor through a 155° wide-angle lens, with images recorded in full resolution to microSD/SDHC/SDXC card at up to 4K at 50/60 fps in H.264 or H.265 on the one hand, and also transferred to the FPV Goggles V2 in HD quality at up to 120 fps for control via OcuSync 3 (O3). Stabilization is hybrid using a 1-axis gimbal as well as electronically via EIS, RockSteady 2.0 or HorizonSteady.

The Avata&s maximum speed is said to be up to 27 m/s in manual mode (i.e., about 100 km/h) - making it significantly slower than the DJI FPV unveiled in March 2021, but it has a larger sensor. The photo of the DJI Avata&s packaging features an "ADS-B / Air Sense" logo, suggesting that, as with the first FPV model, it will use DJI&s Air Sense technology to determine the positions of nearby aircraft through Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) signals emitted by them and communicate them to the drone pilot, along with their respective distances, so that he can avoid potential collisions.

New: DJI Goggles V2
. Along with the new FPV drone, a new version of the Goggles is also introduced, the DJI Goggles V2 (without FPV in the name like the previous model), which at 290 grams are much lighter and also more compact than the FPV V2 Goggles at 420 grams. The live images are supposed to be transmitted only with 100 fps (instead of 120 fps) on the new goggles (if the leaked technical data is correct), but the image quality will presumably be better, since two up to 700 nits bright 2" micro LED displays (instead of 360 nits bright LCDs) are used.

Price and Versions
. The DJI Avata drone solo price will cost , in the Pro-View combo together with the new DJI Goggles 2 and a motion controller (for intuitive motion control) the price is said to be 1,388, the Smart combo (without the motion controller) and the old FPV Goggles V2 is slightly cheaper at 1,168.
