The information from various recent rumors has proven true: DJI has unveiled the Flip, a new mini drone that combines the best features of the Neo and the Mini 4 Pro. Its foldable rotors with propeller guards make it extremely compact for transport, yet its camera boasts a 1/1.3" 48-megapixel sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, capable of recording 4K HDR video at up to 60 fps image quality previously reserved for DJI&s larger models. Unsurprisingly, it uses the same camera as the Mini 4 Pro. DJI Flip The Dual Native ISO Fusion camera also supports slow-motion recording at 4K/100fps and the 10-bit D-Log M color mode. Footage is saved to its 2GB internal storage or a MicroSDXC card. For smartphone-optimized videos, vertical 2.7K resolution (1512 x 2688 at 24/25/30fps) recording is available, eliminating the need for post-production cropping. DJI markets the Flip as a user-friendly drone for vlogging and travel. Crucially for many drone pilots, weighing 249 grams, the Flip falls below the 250-gram weight limit, resulting in fewer restrictions compared to heavier models. A drone license isn&t required for operation, and flights over people (but not groups of people) are permitted ideal for a small, portable selfie drone. DJI Flip Flight time is also improved compared to the Neo: the Flip&s 3110-mAh battery provides up to 31 minutes of flight time, significantly longer than the DJI Neo&s 18 minutes and only 3 minutes shorter than the larger Mini 4 Pro. 1080p/60fps video data is transmitted using the O4 system (unfortunately not the superior O4+) up to a (theoretical) distance of 13 kilometers (FCC) using the RC-N3 for smartphone control or the RC-2 remote with integrated display. Further features include: Wi-Fi: 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 5.0 for control via the DJI Fly app. DJI&s Intelligent Shooting ModesNaturally, the Flip also features DJI&s intelligent shooting modes, enabling easy automated special flight shots. - MasterShots: The DJI Flip automatically performs various camera movements, records multiple clips, and edits them with music, cuts, and effects. - Hyperlapse: Users can choose from four options (Free, Circle, Course Lock, and Waypoint) to create time-lapse videos in up to 4K horizontal or 2.7K vertical resolution. - FocusTrack: FocusTrack offers three functions for following and recording moving subjects: ActiveTrack 4.0, Spotlight 2.0, and Point of Interest 3.0. - Panorama: Supports 180°-, wide-angle, vertical, and spherical panorama photos, especially for landscape shots. DJI Flip Similar to the Air 3S, the Flip uses LiDAR for obstacle avoidance and offers AI-powered object tracking to automatically maintain optimal framing. The Fly More Combo includes a new charging station that simultaneously charges two batteries in 45 minutes. With the Flip, DJI directly targets one of the last major competitors in the drone market: HoverAir&s foldable X1 models. Their C0 class selfie drones with automated flight modes had carved a niche in the market otherwise dominated by DJI. Flying with or without a Remote ControllerThe DJI Flip can be controlled via remote controllers (DJI RC-N3 or RC 2), the DJI Fly app, or voice control. When using the DJI Fly app, audio recording is also possible, with automatic propeller noise filtering. DJI Flip DJI Flip vs Neo and Mini 4 ProPrice and AvailabilityThe DJI Flip with the RC-N3 remote is available now for 439. With the RC-2 remote with integrated display, it costs 639; the DJI Flip Fly More Combo, including the DJI RC-2, two additional batteries, and a parallel charging station, costs 779.
