For its latest generation of smartphone gimbals, DJI has designed a new multi-functional module that includes improved subject tracking, a built-in light, and acts as a microphone receiver for better audio. The module is included in the more expensive Osmo Mobile 7P version but is also supported by the simpler Osmo Mobile 7, allowing for later upgrades.

Osmo Mobile 7 and 7P
Both gimbals, in conjunction with the DJI Mimo app, support ActiveTrack 7.0 and offer a longer battery life of up to 10 hours compared to the 6th generation, thanks to a built-in 3350 mAh battery. They can also charge the connected smartphone via USB-C. A small tripod foot can be unfolded for free-standing use.
DJI claims the magnetic mount has been redesigned, making it easy to attach both iPhones and Android phones.
Osmo Mobile 7P with Multi-functional Module
The multi-functional module included with the Osmo Mobile 7P allows users to easily track people using a smartphone&s native camera, a live streaming app, or another camera app without needing the DJI Mimo app required for ActiveTrack. The module is said to precisely maintain focus in a crowd or reacquire a subject after it briefly leaves the frame. Despite its similarity to the DJI LiDAR module, it appears to contain only a small camera for object recognition DJI does not provide details on how the module works.

The module attaches to the gimbal with a magnetic clip and can be controlled with hand gestures to take photos, start or stop video recording, activate tracking, or adjust composition:
- Showing the palm towards the module starts or stops intelligent tracking.
- A "V" gesture takes a photo. It can also start or stop video recording.
- A "double-L" gesture with both hands adjusts the framing of a subject.
Additionally, the module has integrated light control with multiple color temperature and brightness levels; these can be adjusted by pressing and holding the side control wheel, already present on the Osmo Mobile 6.
The multi-functional module can also act as a microphone receiver by connecting its USB-C port to the smartphone to ensure high-quality audio transmission. (The matching Mic Mini Transmitter is optionally available.)
It seems the Osmo Mobile 7P also features improved three-axis stabilization and an integrated extension/selfie stick.
ActiveTrack 7.0
The latest version of the tracking technology allows the gimbal to automatically follow object movements, even in a busy environment. Smart Capture should enable the gimbal to recognize multiple subjects, and users should be able to instruct the gimbal to fixate on a subject or switch to another subject with a simple tap. Smooth Tracking allows precise determination of the preferred focus and maintains continuous tracking, even if the subject is obscured or moving quickly.
Price and Availability
The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P is available now for 159, while the Osmo Mobile 7 is offered at 99, making it cheaper than its predecessor.
