Who would have thought it: the production of analog film material is apparently lucrative enough again to justify new investments in its manufacture. Due to the increased demand, Eastman Kodak has decided to modernize its factory in Rochester (New York) - to this end, operations there were completely paused in November. Around 12 years ago, Kodak was forced to file for bankruptcy after the digital revolution virtually wiped out an important business foundation. After structural changes, however, the production of film material continued on a low flame, and now the pendulum is swinging back. Analog photography is celebrating a revival - even if the number of meters of film sold will certainly never be anywhere near as high as before the invention of digital cameras, it is still possible to demand significantly more than before. According to CEO Jim Continenza, Eastman Kodakt is even recording increased sales figures in the moving image film sector. In fact, we can well imagine that this trend could intensify in response to the very latest digital revolution: generative AI. It is already calculating completely virtual images with any content in unmanageable quantities. This undoubtedly has a magic of its own, but it couldn&t be further away than that emanating from decelerated, analog images. We are therefore predicting a sharp rise in the desire for scarcity and authenticity in the image sector and are already dusting off our photo lab in the cellar. more infos at bei kosmofoto.com deutsche Version dieser Seite: Eastman Kodak investiert in seine Filmmaterial-Fabrik |
