Face Swapping is an AI-based technique that allows to swap the face of a performer for another face in an image or video. Simple apps to accomplish this were already making the rounds
4 years ago, but SOTA (State-Of-The-Art) models remain reserved for the command line as far as we know.
And not without reason, because with these models a lot of damage can be done, especially in the area of personal rights. In the past, for example, offensive videos of people were created against their will and distributed over the Internet. The people concerned can hardly defend themselves against this, if they become aware of it at all.
Nevertheless, the technology itself remains extremely exciting and also has useful fields of application. Which is why many video producers would like to have it in their toolbox. The open source project FaceFusion is intended for just such cases. It allows to access SOTA models with a simple interface and to use them very easily and intuitively with a few mouse clicks.

With FaceFusion it is easy to create faceswapping and deep fakes
The creators are aware of the potential ethical problems and have taken measures to prevent the software from being used for inappropriate content, such as nudity. For example, technical filters have been built into the project at several points to prevent the creation of DeepFakes with explicit content.
In addition, another note for all readers who experiment with such models: Anyone using real faces should ALWAYS get the consent of the person in question beforehand. Likewise, deepfakes should ALWAYS be clearly marked as such. After all, clips can nowadays find their way onto the Internet via very uncontrolled channels, because they can easily be shared carelessly via various platforms.
