Free Blackmagic Camera App 1.1 for Android brings many new functions

About around a month ago, Blackmagic released its free Camera App for Android, and now the first update has already been released, bringing numerous new features and support for additional smartphones.

A nice addition is the ability to output the camera image via HDMI for monitoring the recording on an external display and to define 3D LUTs for recording and monitoring. Additionally, recordings can now be made to any location such as an external storage, and there are new controls for pull-focus transitions and improved monitoring and adjustment options for audio levels.

Support for more smartphones

When the Camera App was launched, it only ran on relatively few smartphone models like the Samsung Galaxy S23, S24, and the Google Pixel 7/8. Now, thankfully, support has been expanded to include additional models, namely the Xiaomi 13/14, OnePlus 11/12, Samsung S21/S22, and the Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a.

Blackmagic Camera for Android

The free Blackmagic Camera for Android app brings professional camera features to smartphones. Not only can settings like frame rate, shutter angle, white balance, and ISO be adjusted manually, but the interface also displays many status and recording parameters like histogram, focus peaking, levels, and frame guides. Autofocus is also supported by tapping on objects.

A unique feature is the direct recording into a DaVinci Resolve project or up to 8K in the Blackmagic Cloud. This allows clips to be edited collaboratively right after recording. By recording in Blackmagic Cloud Storage, editors and cutters worldwide can access these files under DaVinci Resolve projects simultaneously.

The Android version can currently record in H.264 and H.265. Apple ProRes as well as anamorphic de-squeeze and lens correction settings are still reserved for the

iPhone version of the Blackmagic Camera App.
