Already in April Canon released a beta version of the EOS Webcam Utility, which allows the use of compatible Canon EOS or PowerShot cameras as a high quality webcam via USB with a Mac or PC.
Canon EOS R6 as Webcam via Utility
An EOS camera connected to a computer via USB is displayed as a USB camera using the EOS Webcam Utility and can be used as an image source in live streaming or video conferencing programs.
Owners of an EOS camera can thus do without an extra capture box or special commercial software to use their Canon camera as a webcam. The following video explains how to install the software, set up the camera and then explain software such as ZoomZoom in the glossary or use Skype as a webcam in a corresponding online video conference. A version for macOS is in progress and will be released soon.
