Panasonic has officially released the firmware update 2.0 for the GH5 as expected -- surprisingly, it not only brings the promised features but also some additional extras. The new firmware is expected to be released at the end of September 2017.
a 4K HDR recording mode using the new Hybrid Log Gamma Mode (HLG) which can be selected in the Photo Style function. In addition, 4K HLG content can be recorded at a low bit rate for playback on HEVC-compatible devices such as Panasonic 4K HDR TVs higher resolution (effectively 18 megapixels) when capturing 4:3 video using anamorphic lenses. In general, autofocus should work more precisely with low-contrast subjects. There are also improvements to the image stabilization, it is supposed to support 2.0x and 1.33x anamorphic lenses in line with the new shooting mode. A new I. S. Lock mode informs the camera that any horizontal movements of the camera are not intended and should be compensated if possible. A new feature is the possibility to control the GH5 via USB via a free Tethering Windows/OS X software - for this purpose all control elements and recording options of the GH5 can be operated on the computer and there is a full screen preview (at least in Photo mode) with the possibility to save the pictures directly on the PC. The GH5 increases performance in 4K and 6K photo mode: the waiting time from one burst to the next is halved;[Loop Rec] in[6K Photo] (Panasonic recommends the use of Panasonic Video Speed Class 90 SD cards for this purpose) In addition to some minor improvements in operation, a bug in Relay Recording / Backup Recording is also fixed, so that the file numbering should now be reliable and error-free.
