As the first expansion module for the Hero 8 Actioncam, GoPro is now launching the small LED light. The "Light Mod" can be plugged onto the Hero 8 via the separately offered (but not yet available) Media Mod, but should also be compatible with all GoPro mounts, so it can also be used as a head light for example. It is waterproof up to a depth of 10m and can therefore also be used for diving photography.
The brightness can be adjusted in four levels, 20, 60 or 125 lumens (120 lux at 1 meter). As a fourth level, an "overdrive mode" offers 200 lumens (200 lux at 1 meter), but only for 30 seconds at a time. The colour temperature without diffuser is 5000K, the CRI value is 90+ by GoPro. Battery life should be about one hour at level 3 (125 lumens).
The Light Mod should be available in this country in the next few weeks for 49,99 Euro incl. light diffusor -- unfortunately the Media Mod is still a few weeks away, but it is needed to attach the light to the Hero 8. It costs another 89.99 Euro and is a small cage for the action cam, which has a directional microphone and a 3.5mm microphone connector, an HDMI output and two accessory shoe holders to connect the "mods" like the LED or the small 1.9" (selfie-) display, which will be available in March.
