Anyone who wants to can now watch a feature film online and free of charge, which at first glance seems quite normal, but differs markedly from previous films in one respect: its plot, the characters, all the dialog, in short the entire screenplay was written by a synthetic “pen”. Apart from the self-reflexive initial idea, the initial prompt so to speak (“Write a plot for a feature film in which a screenwriter realizes that he is less good than an artificial intelligence”), the film “The Last Screenwriter” was generated by ChatGPT - in other words, an AI-based language model. Filmmaker Peter Luisi certainly discarded a lot of things and had them redone, even shortened, but allegedly didn&t change a word, didn&t rearrange anything and didn&t introduce any of his own ideas. Instead, he and his crew professionally filmed the script - as a basis for discussion, because AI tools are out there in the world. Economic interests will lead to them being used - but what are they capable of? First of all, The Last Screenwriter is surprisingly a coherent movie, despite being written by a machine (Luigi certainly made sure of that). It shows a storyline and deals with quite complex concepts, such as creativity, social relationships, etc., without ChatGPT showing any major weaknesses in terms of content, at least not in the scenes we&ve seen. At the same time, and this is the good news, so to speak, for anyone who was planning to write a script or two themselves, the cinematic narrative is colossally boring - while ChatGPT can elicit a plot and output characters and scenes, the system does not master the primal principle of cinematic approach: Show, don&t tell. There is a lot of lecturing and explaining, there is no subtext. The result is correspondingly predictable. In this respect, the film represents a double showcase from our point of view - it shows what these systems can already achieve and at the same time their current limits. more infos at bei lastscreenwriter.com deutsche Version dieser Seite: Wie gut sind Filmdialoge und Handlung aus KI-Feder? |
