Insta360 Ace Pro 2 Actioncam with improved PureVideo and Leica color profiles

The Ace Pro 2 is the latest generation of the Insta360 action cam - it has to compete with the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, which was also recently launched on the market. In terms of sensor size, the two are on a par, as the Ace Pro 2 is also equipped with a new 1/1.3” sensor - however, it offers recording in max. 8K, this time with up to 30p (the previous model had 24p), while DJI continues to rely on 4K. Insta360 also specifies a dynamic range of 13.5 f-stops for its camera and sensor.

The Ace Pro 2 also has a Leica Summarit lens with a 157° field of view. According to the manufacturer, it is also the first action cam with a dual AI chip - a dedicated pro imaging chip takes care of image processing and noise reduction, while a separate 5nm AI chip is responsible for further image processing and the overall performance of the camera.
As with the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, there are further optimized AI-supported image functions. The PureVideo recording mode was already available on the predecessor, but it is now designed to ensure significantly improved low-light performance by using a specially trained neural network to reduce noise and improve detail reproduction in real time. With FlowState stabilization, the horizon lock can now be switched on internally in the camera.
The 4K 60fps Active HDR mode should also deliver better results thanks to the new chip. As before, the maximum 4K slow motion recording is 120fps. Sound is to be recorded with more effective wind protection thanks to revised audio algorithms.
Some color profiles developed by Leica are new - the following are now available for selection: Standard, Vivid, I-Log, Leica Vivid, Leica Natural, Portrait, Film, Vintage, Urban, Night. A digital 2x zoom and timecode also appear to be new.
In contrast, we believe that an in-camera AI highlight assistant was already included before, as well as gesture & voice control, pre-recording and the option to pause a recording.
The flip-up touchscreen has been enlarged to 2.5 inches and is said to be slightly brighter than before, while the pixel density is around 70% higher. A more powerful battery (1800 mAh) has also been installed, which should provide a 50% longer runtime than the Insta360 Ace Pro in a new endurance mode at 4K 30fps. The fast charging function has been improved.
The Ace Pro 2 has a removable lens protector and can withstand temperatures down to -20 °C. The water resistance is slightly higher than before, 12m instead of 10m (still 60 meters with diving housing).
Real-time stats from sports brands and third-party apps, including Garmin, Apple, COROS and others can be overlaid. Moto vloggers can pair the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 with their motorcycle helmet headset from Sena, Cardo and others for dual-track sound and voice control. Alternatively, users can add stats from their smartphone directly in the Insta360 app without additional equipment or use the GPS preview remote control for easy live preview, remote control and real-time GPS data.
The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 will be available immediately and costs €449.99 in the standard bundle.
