Insta360 X5 unveiled - 8K 360° camera now with larger image sensors

The fifth generation of Insta360&s small 360° action camera comes with new camera modules and more AI. Larger 1/1.28" image sensors (previously 1/2") and a triple AI chip system, consisting of a 5 nm AI chip and two Pro-Imaging chips, are designed to provide improved image quality; the increased computing power benefits, among other things, noise reduction. The latter is particularly noticeable in low-light shots in the new PureVideo mode. The Active HDR mode has also been improved to 5.7K 60 fps for smoother, sharper shots, especially in high-contrast scenes.
Insta360 X5 360° camera
As before, the compact, approx. 200 g Insta360 X5 has two extremely wide-angle cameras sitting back to back, together covering 360°. A "normal" video can be created from the panoramic video afterwards by cropping, whereby the image section can be placed completely freely, depending on where something worth seeing has happened. It is also possible to record with only one of the two modules, like with a classic action cam.
New to the X5 is an InstaFrame mode, which simultaneously records a normal, automatically cropped, directly shareable video and a complete 360° video that can be further edited later.

According to the manufacturer, the Insta360 X5 is also the most robust 360° camera of all time. The lenses used are made of a new, extremely resistant glass. However, should they ever be damaged, they can be easily replaced on the go. With the X4, it was possible to change the lens protector; Insta360 is now explicitly talking about the lenses themselves. Further hardware upgrades include an integrated windshield made of steel mesh, a longer battery life of 3 hours (in 5.7K) and water resistance up to 15 m (IP68).
As always, the "Invisible Selfie Stick" effect, FlowState stabilization plus 360° horizon lock, multiple color profiles (Vivid, Standard, Flat, I-Log) and a maximum video bit rate of 180 Mbit/s are supported.
The Insta360 companion app has been revised and offers as a new feature a dewarp feature that removes fisheye distortions with a tap for natural-looking shots, as well as a new option that allows export without editing or reframing at the touch of a button. The X5 is also complemented by the Insta360+ Cloud service, which allows you to instantly share 360° clips and edit them in the cloud.
