The recently introduced firmware update 1.7.5. for the RED KOMODO brings a lot of new features that many users should surely welcome with open arms:
For example, the terse sentence "Improvements to the autofocus added" sounds exciting, since RED has so far had much less to offer in this area compared to Canon, Sony or most recently Panasonic.
The KOMODO now also supports R3D recording in ELQ quality, where R3D-RAW files are compressed even more to get even longer recording times out of a memory card.
Direct upload to the cloud should also now be possible with the new firmware. And interestingly, not only to Frame.io, but also to Amazon AWS S3.
Another "must have" will soon be the recording of camera motion data. KOMODO can now also record accelerometer and gyro data in an R3D file. It is therefore likely that in the near future some editing systems will also be able to evaluate this R3D data for image stabilization.
