Much information is not yet available, but thanks to the CES Innovation Award, we know that LG will soon introduce the UltraFine Display 32U990A, the world&s first 6K monitor equipped with Thunderbolt 5. With this feature, it surpasses even Apple&s Pro Display XDR 6K and—interestingly, even before Apple itself—offers a monitor that utilizes the new Thunderbolt 5 ports of the new Mac Mini M4. And with its minimalist design, featuring ultra-thin bezels and an elegant stand, LG&s new monitor is a perfect companion for the new Mac Minis—very likely at a lower price than Apple&s own solution. LG UltraFine 32U990A 6K Monitor The 32" UltraFine Display 32U990A offers not only Thunderbolt 5 (presumably via multiple ports), but also "versatile connectivity," which will likely consist of a selection of additional DisplayPort and HDMI interfaces as well as a KVM switch. The Nano IPS Black panel enables exceptional color accuracy and high contrast with a large color gamut (99.5% Adobe RGB and 98% DCI coverage). Its 6K resolution (6,016 x 3,384 pixels) offers almost 40% more desktop space than a 5K display (5,120 x 2,880 pixels) and even 145% more than a 4K monitor. The doubled data rate of Thunderbolt 5 compared to its predecessor makes sense for higher refresh rates and especially for multi-monitor setups using only one cable via daisy-chaining or connecting additional peripherals such as SSD RAID storage solutions to the monitor (as a hub). Apple&s Pro Display XDR Until now, the only competition to Apple&s Pro Display XDR has been the also 32" Dell Ultrasharp U3224KB, which has been on the market for about 1 1/2 years, and—so far only announced—the Asus ProArt Display 6K PA32QCV. There is no information yet on the peak brightness of the LG 6K, but it can be assumed that it will be between that of the Apple Pro Display XDR 6K with 1,000 nits and the 600 nits of the Asus ProArt Display. Details on pricing, specifications, and availability have not yet been announced but will likely be released soon.
