Most anamorphic lenses are provided with a coating that colors the typical horizontal lens flares - the striped reflections - and thus gives the entire image a color mood. When purchasing, it is therefore important to decide whether to opt for a warm or cool image. To offer more flexibility here, Laowa is launching its 2x Super35 Proteus anamorphic lenses in a new Flex version. With these new, partially modular Proteus Flex lenses, a flare module can be replaced, provided you have no qualms about using a screwdriver on your optics. The change can be made in 10 minutes and requires no additional calibration. Four different modules are supplied with the purchase of a Proteus Flex focal length: in addition to blue, amber yellow and (factory-installed) silver, there is also a neutral (clear) coated version, with which less pronounced flare effects should occur. With the exception of the flex modules, the new series should correspond to the Proteus anamorphic lenses available since last year, which are equipped with PL mount as standard (interchangeable with EF) and cover a Super 35+ light circle (max. sensor size 25.9mm x 21.6mm). 4:3 or 6:5 sensors produce images with a 2.66:1 or 2.4:1 aspect ratio after rectification. The light intensity is a T2 throughout. There are six focal lengths to choose from, 28 / 35 / 45 / 60 / 85 / 100mm. However, the new Proteus Flex lenses are more expensive, costing 9,999 dollars each (twice as much as without Flex).
