As an extension of its APS-C system, Leica presents another compact camera that is similar to the internal technology of the Leica TL2 but has a viewfinder and other control elements on the housing, which is also reflected in a higher price.
Like the TL, the Leica CL offers an APS-C 24MP image sensor, a Maestro II series processor and a video recording in max. resolution. 4K at 30 frames per second -- for the TL, it was stated that in video mode only a part of the sensor area is read out; this is missing here, but the procedure will probably be similar.
In addition to the 3" display, however, a high-resolution electronic viewfinder (resolution 2.36 million pixels) is built in for image control, with a reaction time that is not noticeable according to Leica. In addition, a small top display for displaying parameters and two adjustment wheels for aperture, shutter speed, ISO value and exposure compensation are built into the top of the camera. It weighs approx. 400g and measures 131 x 78 x 45 mm. A WLAN module is integrated so that the camera can also be operated via a smartphone app.
Leica TL and SL lenses can be connected via the Leica L-bayonet, alternatively Leica M- and R-lenses can be connected via Leica M- and R-adapter L, respectively. However, the standard scope of delivery does not include a lens, i. e. the recommended retail price of 2,490 Euro applies only to the Leica CL housing. The camera will be available from the end of November.
