LeicaRumors and the original thread on the Chinese social network Weibo point to a new Leica SL camera, which is expected to be announced by March 2024.
This upcoming Leica SL3 is to be released with a stabilized 60 megapixel full-frame sensor. This should enable 8K recording with a maximum of 30p in a native 1:1 sensor section. In addition, C4K 17:9 recording over the full sensor area with up to 60p should be possible - most likely in an oversampling mode.
The current Leica SL2 is considered a direct competitor to Nikon's Z8 or Sony's A9. It is an open secret that Leica and Panasonic have been working together on camera development for some time now and that many Leica models are similar to Panasonic models. However, there is currently not a single 8K LUMIX model from Panasonic. This in turn could indicate that a new model could soon be on the horizon.
