The ThinkPad P series, along with the ThinkPad X1 Extreme, is the top of the line of Lenovo's most powerful notebooks - mobile workstations for tasks that require extra processing power, such as 4K/6K/8K/RAW video editing.
ThinkPad P15 and P17
Lenovo is introducing a new nomenclature with the two new models, the P15 and P17, which are the successors to the P54 and P74, which not only have new updated hardware components, but have also been redesigned internally to improve CPU and GPU cooling - for example, the airflow has been improved by 13% and the heatsink has been increased by 30%. This allows the graphics cards to absorb more power without getting hotter, providing greater processing power.

Another new feature is the modular design, which particularly affects the graphics cards. These are no longer soldered as before, but can be exchanged on a daughter card due to their new special format. Both can be equipped with an Nvidia RTX graphics card. The CPU options unfortunately do not include AMD Ryzen models, but only Intel processors such as Core i7 Comet Lake and Xeon CPUs. The fixed memory can be equipped with up to 4 TB SSDs, the RAM with up to 128 GB. The maximum display option in each case is an UltraHD Dolby Vision HDR screen.
The two new models are scheduled for release at the end of August - the price of the ThinkPad P15 will start at 1,500 Euros, that of the ThinkPad P17 at 1,700 Euros.
ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3
However, the new top model is the 15.6" notebook ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3, which is based on Intel's new "H" processors of the 10th generation and is equipped with Nvidia's GeForce 1650 Ti graphics card. It has an above average 600 nits bright display, Wi-Fi 6 and (optionally) an integrated LTE-A modem. The ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3 is supposed to be released in July - the price is not yet known.

The three top models offer the new Ultra-Performance Mode, a new maximum power setting that optimizes the ventilation for maximum CPU and GPU performance.
