At the CineGear in Los Angeles at the end of this month, the new Megallan 65mm film camera will be on show, a professional film tool that aims to combine the best of the analogue and digital world in a modern new version. The Magellan 65mm built in Denmark by Logmar is not a retro/replica camera for enthusiasts, but is a more modern alternative to the Arriflex 765 and Panavision System 65, which are currently (again) popular for analogue productions. The Magellan 65 scores with a whole series of modern details. First and foremost, its light weight of only 12 kg is likely to stand in a ready to shoot setup (incl. optics, film and battery). For comparison: the chic Arriflex 765 weighs 32 kg. In addition, a 4K and Full HD output via HDMI for corresponding viewfinder options and various IN/Out ports are available: HDMI up to 4K UHD for viewfinder 2x USB-3 Super Speed host ports 1x USB-2 device port 1x 5pin XLR stereo audio input 1x power input port The Magellan 65, equipped with a fixed guillotine shutter (180°), features the corresponding Hasselblad mount. Bluetooth and WIFI support provide remote functions and wireless headphone support. Also a 15mm rig support is already integrated in the Magellan 65 housing. Sound is recorded either internally or externally. For sound processing an Asahi-Kasai Velvet Sound 32bit stereo codec with 121dB dynamic range is available, which is recorded via 5-pin stereo XLR port on the camera side either internally or externally on USB 3 storage. On the right side of the camera housing there are 6 buttons including an LCD for menus settings- a configuration reminiscent of digital ARRIs - as well as the overall shape of the housing without magazine. So if you are planning a 65/70mm "mobile" shoot and want to come back without back damage, the new Magellan 65mm is a highly exciting camera option. If the Maggelan 65mm works as described, a lot of filmmakers should be queuing up already. A prize has not yet been communicated (thanks to Rüssel in the slashCAM forum). more infos at bei logmar.dk deutsche Version dieser Seite: Lang Lebe Film!
