MSI will be presenting the new Creator 17 laptop - the first laptop ever with a mini LED display - at the Consumer Electronic show in Las Vegas on January 7th. The mini LED technology enables a very high brightness and color dynamic - in the case of the MSI Creator 17 a brightness of 1.000 nits and a high dynamic with 240 local dimming zones, which enables it to meet the specifications of the HDR1000 standard.
Mini-LED is another step on the way to ever smaller backlights, which allow for an ever more precise local contrast ratio. Only OLED or Micro-LED displays have a better contrast, where every pixel corresponds to an LED. Unlike OLED technology, mini LED technology is also immune to burn-in problems.

The 17.3" 4K UltraHD panel offers an extended color gamut that covers 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. The laptop also supports both the DCI-P3 and Display P3 standards. Local dimming increases the contrast and also prevents disturbing effects such as blooming.
Further technical features of the Creator 17 are the Thunderbolt 3 connector, which can also be used to address 8K displays in combination with powerful Nvidia graphics cards, and the UHS-III SD card reader, which reaches a speed of up to 624 MB per second.
Mini-LED in comparison
According to MSI, the new Creator 17 with mini LED will probably be released in the first half of 2020 with the latest Intel processors and NVIDIA graphics solutions - the exact features such as the price are still unknown - especially since new GPUs and CPUs can still be released and integrated until then. Current Creator 17M models can be configured with an Intel i7 CPU of the 9th generation, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 or 1660 Ti GPU and a maximum of 64GB RAM.
