With the LiDAR rangefinder, DJI has a pretty good system on the market to help manual lenses to autofocus - it is designed for use with the RS 3 Pro gimbal, but can also be used without a gimbal, but of course a focus motor is also needed.
The distance points determined by LiDAR are interpreted by AI algorithms and converted into focus commands, allowing faces or objects to be tracked. With the prototype shown at NAB, up to three lenses could be mapped to a Motor Smart by setting three focus points. According to current info on the website, it now seems possible to store and retrieve up to 7 lens data sets. Some kind of self-calibration is probably also included. In general, most things are supposed to happen automatically; setting options via app, for example, are not mentioned. Motor Smart is supposed to offer a torque of up to 1.0Nm and respond faster than previously available focus motors from DPMovie. Whether the targeted price of per motor still applies is open, as is the actual release date. Whether the system will prove itself in practice also remains to be seen, of course.
