New ARRI Camera Companion app offers customizable camera control

After a good two years (in beta), the ARRI Camera Companion App is now officially available for iPad, iPhone and Mac with Apple Silicon. Via a freely customizable user interface, the app offers full control over ARRI cameras - compatible are the ALEXA 35, ALEXA Mini LF, ALEXA Mini, AMIRA and ALEXA 65. A subscription is required for full functionality; the Standard subscription offers comprehensive control over one or two ARRI cameras, while the Premium subscription offers additional features such as an unlimited number of cameras and MIDI support.

Flexible Remote Control
Camera Companion supports virtually all required camera controls and status displays on a professional set. Recording options, playback, frame rates, ND filters, white balance, shutter angle, pre-recording, sensor flip and web remote can be set, and frame grabs can be created at any time; they are displayed in a separate area and can be easily shared. An unlimited number of freely assignable buttons/tiles can be generated for special camera functions.

Users can choose a predefined layout or drag and drop control tiles into a custom layout. With a Premium subscription, the user interface can be divided into multiple tabs, allowing users to create separate tabs for different cameras or shooting situations, or assign functions such as playback control to a dedicated tab.
By creating independent user interfaces for different crew members, different camera settings can be made simultaneously by different people. Matching multiple cameras is done in no time at all.
For maximum professional versatility, the Premium subscription extends the app's functionality to include lens control via cforce lens motors, CDL control for live grading, and video parameter control (for ALEXA Mini and AMIRA cameras). In addition, the app offers MIDI support for control via physical input devices, opening up almost unlimited possibilities for controlling ARRI cameras with MIDI-enabled devices of all kinds and further expanding the scope for customized camera control setups.
Price and availability
While the ARRI Camera Companion App is available for free download now, it is only of limited use without an upgrade for demo purposes and offers only simple control with one camera, access to the camera menu and a free Standard and Premium trial period that allows users to familiarize themselves with the features.
The Standard subscription costs 4.99 euros per month or 49 euros per year, Premium users pay 39 euros per month or 399 euros per year.
