DJI has unveiled the new three-axis gimbal RS 4 Mini for cameras and smartphones. Similar to its predecessor, the RS 3 Mini, it is a slimmed-down, more compact, and cheaper version of the current Ronin base model (RS 4). At 890 grams, it is significantly lighter (and more compact) than the RS 4, but this results in a lower maximum payload of only 2 kilograms (instead of 3 kg), making it more suitable for mirrorless cameras than DSLRs. However, the RS 4 Mini receives a significant upgrade and, for the first time, incorporates several features from the top model, such as automated axis locks, a new intelligent tracking module for ActiveTrack, faster switching for vertical shots, and a Teflon coating for smoother and more precise balancing. The battery life has also been improved.
![]() DJI RS4 Mini The Innovations of the RS 4 MiniAutomated axis locks were first introduced in the larger Ronin RS models. They allow the gimbal&s three-axis locks to be unlocked in one second, saving time during setup, transitions between different shooting situations, and finally, folding for transport. This is complemented by the so-called 3rd generation Native Vertical Switch, which aims to make vertical shooting for social media content (e.g., for TikTok or YouTube Shorts) even easier. The new Teflon coating between the moving parts and a new fine-tuning knob should allow the RS 4 Mini to achieve smoother and more precise millimeter-accurate balance when installing a camera. ![]() DJI RS4 Mini The fundamental gimbal stabilization technology has also been upgraded to the fourth generation – it is now said to provide an improved balance between high-grade stability and a natural camera feel, and better vertical stabilization. New is the so-called Reaction Mode, in which the gimbal reacts faster to hand movements when starting and stopping. It is intended for shots where a fast-moving subject is circled. It complements the classic "Smooth Follow" mode for a gentler gimbal movement, intended for normal shooting situations where a subject is to be followed. ![]() DJI RS4 Mini as an autonomous cameraman New: Tracking ModuleA major innovation is the intelligent tracking module, which is now included in the RS 4 Mini Combo package. With its help, ActiveTrack can detect and track a human subject up to a distance of 10 meters on any camera system or phone – with or without the DJI Ronin app – this is said to work even in complex environments. The RS 4 Mini can thus be used as an autonomous cameraman. Tracking can be activated by pressing the trigger or with a visual command using an open palm (the latter is practical if the gimbal is stationary during one-man shoots and is used as an intelligent camera). The tracking module features a magnetic quick-release design that allows it to be attached to the gimbal in just one second. ![]() DJI RS4 Mini Tracking Module Improved Battery LifeImportant for mobile use: DJI has increased both the battery life and charging speed by about 30 percent compared to the predecessor model RS 3 Mini, so the RS 4 Mini can now be used for up to 13 hours. The quick-charge function provides enough power for five hours of use after just half an hour of charging. How does the DJI RS 4 Mini differ from the RS 3 Mini?Compared to the DJI RS 3 Mini, the new RS 4 Mini is a significant upgrade due to its increased battery performance, automated axis locks, and the new intelligent tracking module, which is already included in the so-called "Combo" version of the gimbal. Weight and maximum payload are identical. ![]() DJI RS4 Mini Camera Control via BluetoothThe gimbal can be paired with most common mirrorless cameras via Bluetooth. After the initial connection, the camera is automatically ready for use as soon as it is switched on, and the video and photo recording functions can be controlled directly via the recording button on the gimbal. When using a Sony camera with a supported digital lens, the optical or digital zoom of the lens can also be controlled directly via the front adjustment wheel. The RS 4 Mini features a 1.4" touchscreen, an M-mode button for switching between the three gimbal modes, and a front adjustment wheel for focusing. A built-in NATO port on the side allows various accessories such as the DJI briefcase grip, external lights, or microphones to be connected. ![]() DJI RS4 Mini Combo Price and AvailabilityThe DJI RS 4 Mini (including a quick-release plate, an RS 4 Mini tripod, an L-shaped multi-camera control cable, a USB-C charging cable, and a screw set) is now available for €389. The DJI RS 4 Mini Combo version also includes the RS Intelligent Tracking Module and an RS 4 Mini briefcase grip and costs €479. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Neuer DJI RS 4 Mini Gimbal für DSLMs kommt mit eigenem Tracking-Modul |
