New HoverAir X1 Pro and X1 Promax 4K/8K selfie drones now available

[09:44 Fri,6.September 2024   by Thomas Richter]

Just in time for the launch of DJI’s new selfie drone Neo (here&s our first test), HoverAir has released and put up for sale its two recently teased successors to the HoverAir X1: www.slashcam.de/news/single/Neue-HoverAir-X1-Pro-und-X1-Pro-Max-Selfie-Drohnen-18757.html.

The X1 Pro costs 387 euros and the X1 Promax 567 euros – both are significantly more expensive than DJI’s Neo at 199 euros. Like the Neo, these can film automatic selfie shots without a controller, using only a button press or voice command. Both new HoverAir models offer significant video resolution improvements compared to the original X1, which was launched last year, and they are also superior to DJI&s new Neo. The original X1, as a compact mini drone in the C0 drone class weighing under 250 grams, had carved out a special niche for easy selfie shots using automatic flight modes, but its resolution was limited to a meager 2.7K.

The innovations of HoverAir X1 Pro and X1 Promax

This flaw has been addressed by the two new models – the new X1 Pro now offers 4K video recording with up to 60 frames per second (fps) and can even shoot at 120 fps in Full HD. The drone is equipped with a Type 1/2 CMOS sensor and a 17mm-equivalent lens, reaching a tracking speed of up to 42 km/h and a maximum speed of 60 km/h.

For filmmakers requiring even higher resolution and image quality, the X1 Promax, with a 1/1.3" sensor and a 16mm lens with a 107° field of view, will offer 8K video recording at up to 30 fps, 4K at up to 120 fps, as well as a 4K HDR mode at up to 60 fps in 10-bit HLG.

Another new feature of both models compared to the previous version is their suitability for use over water, snow, and cliffs, as the new batteries can now withstand extreme low temperatures down to -20°C. Both drones retain the compact, foldable design of the X1 and are smaller in transport than DJI’s Neo – and they require no flight experience from users, as they fly and film autonomously using automatic tracking modes.

The X1 Pro has a rear sensor to avoid collisions, while the X1 Promax has an additional sensor for obstacle avoidance using computer vision. Both models can use ND filters to reduce the amount of light entering the camera lens. Both models reach a top speed of 42 km/h and can withstand wind speeds of 29-38 km/h.
