Lenovo has launched two new Thinkstation workstations, which bring a lot of power for compute-intensive tasks and are therefore also interesting for video editing: the new top models P920 and P720 are equipped - depending on configuration - with up to two Skylake-SP Xeon CPUs with a maximum of 28 processor cores. The memory equipment can also be adapted to professional requirements: up to 2 TB 2,666 MHz DDR4 RAM (16 x 128 GB) and 12 drives (2 x M.2s, 6 x 3.5" HDDs and 10 x 2.5" SSDs are available) can be selected.

The range of interfaces for the P920 is extensive: 4 x USB 3.1 Gen1 (type 1), a micro input and a headphone output on the front panel. Rear: 4 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type A), 2 x USB 2.0, one serial and one parallel port, two PS/2 ports, two Ethernet ports and audio in/out and micro in. For expansion via PCIe there are five PCIe x16, four PCIe x 4 and one PCI slot which can be equipped with up to three NVIDIA Quadro GP100 or P6000 graphics cards. The power supply offers 1400W power. The price for the P920 Thinkstation starts at around 2,300 Euros, the
P720 at around 2,100 Euros.

Only one Skylake Xeon-W processor (with 4 to 18 cores) for the Socket-2066 comes with the model P520 and the compact model P520C. They do not target applications as processor-intensive as the Pro models P920 and P720. Their memory can hold a maximum of 256 GB - two fast PCIe SSDs can be connected via the M.2 slots. They are configured with one Nvdiai Quadro P500 (P520c) or two P6000 GPUs. Both models are available from around 1,600 Euro (P520) and 1,500 Euro (P520c) respectively.
