New Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone: 8K, 200MP sensor, AI night mode and improved autofocus

Samsung presents its new smartphone flagship model Galaxy S23 Ultra. Like the predecessor, it optionally films in 8K, now with a maximum of 30p (up from 24p). Built into the main camera is a new 200MP ISOCELL HP2 image sensor (1/1.3"), which can combine up to 16 sensor pixels into one via Tetra²pixel binning technology to achieve a larger pixel size. When shooting 8K, four pixels are automatically combined, resulting in a 1.2µm 50MP mode.

In addition to the 200MP f/1.7 24mm main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle as well as two telephoto camera modules (10MP 3x, 10MP 10x) are on board. In 4K, filming can be done at up to 60p.
The new Isocell HP2 sensor features a new Super QPD technology that enables each pixel to provide autofocus information. This is said to translate into much faster and improved AF behavior, especially with moving subjects or low-light conditions. The HDR mode is also said to be improved. RAW, multiple exposures and astro functions are available in the photo mode, among others.
AI-assisted Nightography mode, features
. AI-assisted features are also back, of course, such as Nightography mode, which allows photos and videos to be taken even in dark environments. Image noise is supposed to be corrected to a large extent, and a special AI algorithm for image signal processing (ISP) helps to bring out object details and color tones. The more advanced object-based AI analyzes individual image details to make even fine facial features such as hair and eyes visible.
A Doubled Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) also intervenes in difficult situations to ensure stable shots; it is said to offer the best stabilization performance in a Galaxy Phone to date. In conjunction with Galaxy Buds2 Pro, 360° audio can be recorded.
A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor takes care of the calculations. Since especially the AI-supported Nightography is extremely computationally intensive, the efficiency of the NPU (neural processing unit) architecture of the Galaxy S22 models has been optimized by about 49%. With the help of a redesigned CPU microarchitecture, the operating speed of the Galaxy S23 series is also said to be increased by about 30% compared to the Galaxy S22 series, and the GPU performance has also been increased significantly (up to 41%). The Dynamic AMOLED display is 17.31 cm (6.8 inches) as before, and the battery offers 5,000 mAh. An S Pen is integrated.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is available from February 17, 2023 for 1,399 Euros with (256 GB) or 1,579 Euros (512GB).
