Specifications of a new version of the ultra-wide 49" 5K monitor targeting gamers ;) Samsung Odyssey G9 S49AG95NC
So while the new S49AG95NC still uses a highly curved (1000R) 48.8" VA panel with 10bit color depth, a GTG response time of 1 millisecond, and 5K DQHD resolution in 32:9 format with 5,120 x 1,440 pixels, the backlight has been upgraded to 2,048 local dimming zones via Quantum Matrix Mini LED technology. These are capable of a massive peak brightness of 2,000 nits. ;) Samsung Odyssey G9 S49AG95NC Confusion around DisplayHDR 2000.This leads to a significant improvement in HDR properties, which were originally falsely advertised in the leak of the Chinese trading platform Taobao with the (still) non-existent DisplayHDR 2000 standard per logo. The VESA, as the organization responsible for the DisplayHDR standard, has explained in a  extra statement that this is an illegal use of the DisplayHDR logo, since there is officially no DisplayHDR 2000 certified monitor yet and thus DisplayHDR 1400 represents the highest level for LCD monitors. The corresponding image has already been removed on Taobao. However, it was left open in the VESA statement whether a DisplayHDR 2000 standard for the new G9 monitor and similarly bright models will be adopted later. ;) Meanwhile removed DisplayHDR2000 mention. Moreover, the new Odyssey G9 covers the DCI-P3 color space by 95% and supports the HDR10+ standard. It can be assumed from the G9&s technical data that HDR is displayed in very good quality - i.e. with sufficient dynamics and brightness. ;) Samsung Odyssey G9 S49AG95NC Like its predecessor, the new monitor features a refresh rate of 240 Hz as well as AMD&s FreeSync Premium Pro to support variable frame rates - support for Nvidia&s G-Sync technology is also on board. Price and AvailabilityAccording to Taobao, the new Samsung Odyssey G9 S49AG95NC should hit the market in China in the summer - as for the price and availability in this country, we are still waiting for an official press release from Samsung.
