Adobe Premiere Pro 2025 explained: Generative Extend, new Color Management and more

New Sony BVM-HX1710 Trimaster reference monitor with 3,000 nits

[16:36 Tue,8.April 2025   by Thomas Richter]

Sony unveiled two new 16.5" 4K monitors at NAB 2025 for its Trimaster HX series of professional reference monitors for 4K HDR productions, the BVM-HX1710 and the BVM-HX1710N (the same model, but with an additional IP interface). Both offer a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, high contrast, and deep blacks, and will be equipped with new features such as a side-by-side display function that allows a direct comparison between two 4K signals or between 4K and HD video.

The BVM-HX1710 (N) has an UltraHD 4K resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and achieves a maximum brightness when playing HDR of 3,000 nits with a typical luminance of 700 nits and a refresh rate of either 96 Hz, 100 Hz or 120 Hz. The BVM-HX1710 offers an extended practical viewing angle of 45°, which should facilitate collaboration between several people during monitoring tasks. In addition, Sony uses advanced AR processing, which minimizes reflections through optical wave compensation – similar to the technology of noise-canceling headphones – and should lead to better contrast, better black reproduction and a clearer image without significant loss of resolution.

Various Licenses for HDR-SDR Conversion

With the optional BVML-H10 license, production teams can simultaneously create 4K/HD-HDR video and HD-SDR video. This function enables SDR shading while viewing an SDR or HDR signal, and delivers an image without overexposed highlights or too dark shadow areas. A total of three different licenses are available for conversion functions:
- BVML-H10 supports Sony&s HDR-SDR, 3D-LUT and 4K-HD conversion
- BVML-S10 supports 3D-LUT/4K-HD conversion
- BVML-T10 only supports 3D-LUT conversion

Faster Pixel Behavior for Sports Broadcasts

The additional BVML-F10 license activates a high pixel response speed, especially for live sports and music productions. Pan and tilt movements are displayed with less motion blur, while running texts are easier to read.

Sony BVM-HX1710N with Integrated IP Support

The model version BVM-HX1710N also has an integrated IP interface, enabling use in IP productions with support for ST2110-20/21/22/30/40, NMOS IS04/IS05, Clean Switch, Hitless Failover and PTP. The IP interface is configured via its own web interface and allows the addition of licenses for SNMP and JPEG XS Decoder support. The direct IP signal input eliminates the need for an IP-SDI converter.

Further Highlight Features

- With firmware version 2.0, two 4K or HD signals can be processed and output simultaneously
- Setting transfer between BVM-HX3110, BVM-HX1710 and BVM-HX1710N via USB or the BVMK-R10 monitor control unit
- Use of environmentally friendly SORPLAS (Sustainable Oriented Recycled Plastic)
- Pixel zoom function (up to 300% without scaling) for precise pixel checks
- User-defined 3D LUTs with high-quality tetrahedral interpolation
- Quad-View display for comparing up to four different display settings
- 4K/HD scopes with automatically changing HDR/SDR scales
