The new free firmware update to version 1.2.0 for Canon's EOS R cameras brings several improvements and fixes some bugs. New is the eye recognition autofocus in AI-Servo mode (AF tracking), which works in both photo and video mode and provides continuous focusing for moving subjects. In addition, the silent triggering for discrete shots added with firmware 1.1.0 now also works for continuous shooting at eight frames per second.

Errors that occurred under certain conditions were corrected, such as the electronic spirit level in the electronic viewfinder was not displayed correctly, the information in the electronic viewfinder was not rotated correctly, and the firmware update for the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E7 was sometimes not possible. Blogger Michael Andrew (aka Michael the Maven) also reports that firmware 1.2.0 solved a banding problem with the Canon EOS R.
