News from Atomos - OS11 upgrade for Ninja (V), feature packs and hints

The most famous founder of Atomos - Jeromy Young - is back! In other words: "returned to Atomos" and now wants to bring more dynamism back to the company. Instead of a press release, Atomos has used a new format to announce numerous new developments. A YouTube livestream covered a number of topics, which we will try to sort out here:

It started with the announcement that older Ninja users would also be provided with a free upgrade from OS10 to OS11. There are reportedly over 300,000 Ninja devices on the market that will now have the opportunity to benefit from new functions. However, everything is not being given away, but depending on the function, you can then equip your Ninja with additional "feature packs" for a fee:

For 79 euros/dollars, the old Ninja V recorders unlock simultaneous ProRes RAW and H.265 proxy files for the cloud, among other things. EL Zone, ARRI False Color, SegmentPro, Playback and RecordAssist are also available.

The Feature Pack for the NINJA V+ costs 129 euros/dollars and also offers ProResRAW Dual Record and SDI Cine.

There will also be a promotion in which the Atomos Connect will be available for 99 euros/dollars for a limited time. The aim here is to enable as many users as possible to connect directly to the Internet - also because Atomos sees the future primarily in the cloud.The Connect module gives you Wifi 6/6E, GigE Ethernet, 12G SDI inputs and a Multicam Sync on your NINJA recorder.

This module (like other Atomos hardware) now includes free access to the Atomos Cloud (Camera to Cloud) for 6 months. In addition, the new price schemes have been specified once again:Camera To Cloud costs 15 euros/dollar, Live Production costs 30 dollars/month and the All-Inclusive plan costs 45 euros/dollar per month.

Also not insignificant is Atomo&s new 3-year warranty on each of its hardware products. The topic of Blackmagic RAW also came up in the stream. Jeromy emphasized that Atomos would also implement Blackmagic RAW in its own recorders if Blackmagic would allow it. Whether this is a really well thought-out position remains to be seen, but the ball is definitely back in Blackmagic&s court at

It is also interesting to note that Atomos has announced that it will be showing a concept for lighting film recordings at NAB.Or rather for the central control of lights.There is no more information on this yet, but NAB 2024 starts in two months& time...
