A “Thomas Bolland”, who has not yet made a name for himself in the camera design scene, has been announcing modular cinema cameras in professional cine housings for a year now, the innards of which obviously come from the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. After Blackmagic launched a similar boxed camera - the PYXIS - on the market this year, the design of the camera, now called the “Nexus G1”, has now undergone another major change. Nexus G1 - Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K in Carbon Cine housing What is surprising at first glance is the price, as early supporters of the project pay just around 400 dollars extra for the entire rehousing. In return, they will not only receive an 800 gram carbon fiber/magnesium alloy body with no less than 64 mounting points, but also an additional 4-inch display with separate buttons that can be used to adjust many of the camera&s functions. The modular design should also enable the installation of various connections and an electronic ND filter, which should cost less than 400 euros/dollars extra. What Thomas B. has definitely mastered are great presentation videos and professional-looking websites with feature-packed demonstrations. However, the camera is not yet available to buy - but delivery is set to begin in the second quarter of 2025. “Followers and supporters” will pay just 2,980 US dollars, while the regular retail price will be 3,300 dollars. Interested parties can now join a waiting list. We personally find the project somewhat opaque overall. According to the website, Blackmagic is not involved in the project, but is said to have “approved” it and provided a helpful support team for technical questions. At the same time, Nexus wants to set up its own modular camera infrastructure alongside the Blackmagic cameras and distribute its own mounts, SSDs etc., which is an unusually large effort for a small company. And even if the actual construction of the camera interiors is completely eliminated in this case, other manufacturers of small camera series such as Kinefinity or Z-Cam show that it is hardly possible to make significant profits in this market with small quantities. And that ultimately the reliable, omnipresent support of the system is a major deciding factor for or against a camera. And as a rule, only large manufacturers can offer this. Nexus G1 - Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K in Carbon Cine housing On the positive side, the Nexus G1 could also just be seen as an extended cage that will always be a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K at heart. It&s best to just give it some time and then we&ll see where the Nexus G1 will ultimately develop. more infos at bei nexus-cameras.com deutsche Version dieser Seite: Nexus G1 - Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K im Carbon Cine-Gehäuse |
