At NAB, NiSi presented an even faster set of cine lenses. The series, named Aureus, includes the focal lengths 18mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm, all with a T1.4 aperture; the already available - and cheaper - Athena lenses offer a maximum aperture of T1.9. The resulting image impression is said to be matched with a neutral color reproduction.
The NiSi Aureus lenses cover a 46mm full-frame image circle and are said to have virtually no focus breathing. Chromatic aberrations, as well as other image errors, are to be minimized. The aperture consists of 11 blades, and the focus throw is 300°.
The Aureus prime series has a flange focal distance at infinity of 16.1 mm to 19.8 mm for all five focal lengths, ensuring broad compatibility with PL-mount cameras and a wide selection of PL adapters - unlike the Athena series, no other mount is available.
All focal lengths are said to weigh approximately 1300g each. A uniform construction, including a front diameter of 90 mm across all focal lengths, facilitates the use of matte boxes and other rigging accessories. Each lens also has an 86mm filter thread for screwing filters directly onto the lens, as well as the option of using rear filters.
Price and availability
The NiSi Aureus cine lenses are scheduled to be available from July and will cost approximately 2,569 euros each, except for the slightly more expensive 18mm lens at 2,914 euros. The set of five costs approximately 11,185 euros.
