Nikon is today presenting the new Z50II mirrorless camera in APS-C/DX format. The particularly compact and lightweight Z-series camera is an all-rounder aimed specifically at content creation, videos, vlogs and live streaming.
Nikon Z50II - APS-C with 10-bit N-Log and many vlogging functions for 999 euros
With dimensions of 127 x 96.8 x 66.5 mm and a weight of approx. 550 g with battery and memory card, it is in any case quite portable, but still has an electronic OLED viewfinder with a 1.0 cm image diagonal and approx. 2.36 million pixels (XGA) and a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits. According to Nikon, this is the ‘brightest electronic viewfinder (EVF) in its class’. There is also a tiltable and rotatable TFT LCD touch monitor with approx. 1.04 million pixels and a screen diagonal of 8 cm (3.2 inches).

The APS-C sensor has 20.9 million active sensors, but does not allow native 6K recording. Instead, video recordings with a maximum resolution of 4K UHD are stored on the SD card in the simple slot. The Nikon Z50II offers 5.6K oversampling up to 30p and up to 60p with a cropped 1:1 sensor readout. Recordings up to 120p are possible in FullHD (1920 x 1080). Recordings are made as MOV or MP4 in H.265/HEVC (8/10 bit) or H.264/AVC (8 bit). N-Log and HLG are optionally available for filming.
For internet productions, the Z50II is the first Nikon Z camera to offer an AF mode for product reviews, which is ideal for vlogging when the focus should move smoothly to the objects shown in the foreground. There is also a ‘hi-res zoom’, which is a virtual digital zoom. However, this is only available in FullHD up to 30p.

There is also a video self-timer that allows a delay before recording begins. In addition, vloggers and video streamers only need one cable to connect the Z50II directly to a smartphone and stream on the video platform of their choice.
The camera has also improved its connections compared to the first Z50: There is now USB type C (USB 3.2), type D HDMI as well as microphone and headphone connections. The sound can also be controlled manually and there is now a professional waveform display for video control.
