Nikon has just released a new firmware version for the Nikon Z8 (version 2.10) and the Nikon Z6 III (version 1.10) as a free download, which should be of particular interest to video users. Following the Nikon Z9 receiving a shutter angle option at the end of last year, this function is now also available for the Nikon Z6 III and Nikon Z8.
However, this hides a shutter angle option that many users have been waiting for. Regarding video recording, the Z6 III firmware further states: Video recording - High-resolution digital zoom is now available when the image area is set to "DX". - A menu item (Power/High-Res. Digi. Zoom Add.)* has been added to the menu (CUSTOM SETTING MENU) at position g9. - A menu item (Shutter Mode) has been added to the menu (CUSTOM SETTING MENU) at position g12. - The option (Zebra Pattern Color) has been added under g14 (Zebra Pattern) in the menu (CUSTOM SETTING MENU). - Options for adjusting the brightness information display have been added under g17 (Brightness Information Display) in the menu (CUSTOM SETTING MENU). *This function is available with NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lenses (as of February 2025). … and virtually the same for the Nikon Z8 firmware. Actually, only False Color is missing – which can&t be far off – especially since "Zebra Pattern Color" already sounds almost like a False Color function to our ears… It&s good to see that Nikon is successively expanding the video functionality of its cameras.
