Alongside the new
NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S, Nikon has also introduced the new Coolpix P1100 superzoom camera. While offering few new features compared to its predecessor, it boasts the same impressive 125x optical zoom that was a highlight of the (now discontinued) Coolpix P1000. This bridge camera targets hobbyist photographers and casual videographers who want to capture distant subjects. One of the few improvements, according to Nikon, is to the birdwatching mode, where a selectable AF-area control allows for more precise selection of the image area.

The focal range is equivalent to 24-3000mm in 35mm format; the zoom can be controlled via a side switch with the thumb (extending lens barrel). Nikon claims improved image stabilization; in video mode, the optical stabilizer is digitally enhanced.
The Coolpix P1100 features a small 1/2.3" type image sensor with 16MP effective resolution and films in up to 4K UHD/30p. The optical construction comprises 17 lenses in 12 groups (with 5 ED glass lenses and 1 Super-ED glass lens). Autofocus uses contrast detection; the aperture consists of 7 blades.
The electronic viewfinder has a resolution of approx. 2.36 million pixels; there is also a tilting and rotating 3.2" touch monitor with 921,000 pixels. A preview image can be output to an external monitor via Micro-HDMI (Type D); a stereo mini-jack is provided for connecting a microphone.
Ready to shoot, including battery and SD(XC) card, it weighs 1410g. An optional remote control (ML-L7) offers full functionality of all buttons via Bluetooth.
The Nikon COOLPIX P1100 is expected to be available at the end of February 2025 for 1,199 Euros.
