Nikon today introduces its first full-frame Z lens specifically designed for video. The NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ is suitable for high-resolution 8K video recording and is particularly aimed at small production teams and solo filmmakers working with Nikon&s mirrorless Z cameras. It offers servo zoom control and weighs 1210 g (including tripod adapter ring).

The power zoom supports ease-in/ease-out (eliminating the need for an external motorized zoom) and 11 different zoom speeds assignable to the zoom switch on the lens. Position recording and recall enable easy recomposition between shots. Manual focus is linear, and the direction of the focus and zoom rings can be reversed. The focus ring features a 0.8-modulus gear. The stepping motor (STM) autofocus is designed for speed and quiet operation.
The optical design with 18 elements in 13 groups (including 3 ED glass elements, 1 aspherical ED glass element, and 4 more aspherical elements) is intended to minimize distortion at all focal lengths, while a nano-crystal coating combats ghosting and flare. Nikon claims focus breathing is suppressed. The minimum focusing distance is 0.34 m (28 to 50 mm) to 0.57 m (in the 135 mm telephoto range).
The aperture consists of nine blades. L-Fn buttons are located on the top and side of the lens. It is dust and moisture sealed.
A yellow ring on the mount instantly identifies this lens—and presumably future lenses—as dedicated video optics. It measures 105 x 177.5 mm and is compatible with professional video accessories such as matte boxes and follow-focus systems.
The included rectangular lens hood features a filter window, allowing the continued use of existing 95mm filters.
The NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ is expected to be available in April 2025 at a suggested retail price of €2,799.00.
