Panasonic has announced the launch of two new cameras in its LUMIX product range without much press hype: The Micro FourThirds G97 and the Travel Zoom TZ99 are very similar to previous models, but now come with a USB-C port due to EU regulations.
The LUMIX TZ99 compact camera is equipped with a 24-720mm LEICA DC lens, which results in a 30x optical zoom that can be extended up to 60x using the digital iZoom. The integrated 5-axis HYBRID O.I.S.+ works in photo and video mode.

4K videos can be recorded at a maximum of 30p, in HD up to 120 frames per second are possible. The tilting touchscreen with 1.84 million pixels is rather simple, but relatively typical for a compact camera.
The LUMIX TZ99 will be available from February 2025 in black (DC-TZ99E-K) and silver (DC-TZ99E-S) at a price of EUR 549.
The LUMIX G97, on the other hand, is another Micro FourThirds camera with a 20.3 MP CMOS sensor with a 5-stop 5-axis Dual I.S. stabilizer for videos and photos.

Here too, 4K can only be recorded at a maximum of 30p and without an official time limit. Slow-motion (4X) or time-lapse (8X) recordings are possible in FHD. According to the press release, cinematic content with 12 f-stops V-Log L is “possible”, which we interpret to mean that this image profile can be used in the camera at no extra cost. Unfortunately, however, only 8-bit recording seems to be integrated, although the data sheet is still unspecific here. In any case, the HDMI output has been limited to 8 bit.
For audio control, there are headphone and microphone connections with manual level control options. The touchscreen has 1.84 million pixels, the OLED Live View Finder is based on 2.360 million pixels.
The LUMIX G97 will be available from February 2025 at a price of EUR 749 (RRP) for the body only (DC-G97E), EUR 949 (RRP) for the 12-60mm lens kit (DC-G97ME) and EUR 1,049 (RRP) for the 14-140mm lens kit (DC-G97HE).
